Every week, we'll be highlighting a different key member of the Helix Games team. For our first installment, we're getting to know a bit more about Helix Games co-founder, Patrick Bergman.
-----------
Who are you, and what is your role at Helix Games?
I am Patrick Bergman, co-founder and CEO of Helix Games.
What's the thing you're most excited about that we're doing with the Helix Games platform?
What excites me most about Helix Games is how it breaks down the walls between developers, streamers, and players — and actually unifies the ecosystem in a way no one else has. You’re not just shipping tools or launching another storefront; you’re building a living, creator-powered infrastructure where a game can be discovered through a stream, launched instantly in a browser, and monetized collaboratively — all on a decentralized backbone.
The browser-native engine is a game-changer, but pairing that with AI Digital Doubles that serve both creators and developers? That’s the killer combo. It doesn’t just scale content; it scales connection — and that’s what legacy platforms have never truly understood.
What's the first game you played that made you want to work in gaming?
I started my career of at Wizards of the Coasts as a teenager. Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons were a big part of my early life. As far as video games, Ultima Online hooked me and never let me go.
What made you get interested in Web3/crypto?
I've been in the games industry for a couple decades now. I've seen how legacy platforms extract value from developers, creators, and players without giving them meaningful ownership or voice. Web3 flips that script. It offers the tools to build something better: a system where creators are rewarded directly, communities govern what they care about, and infrastructure isn’t locked behind gatekeepers.
It’s not just the tech that drew me in — it’s the opportunity to rebuild the business model of gaming around people, not platforms. And that’s exactly what we are doing at Helix.
What are you currently playing, or watching streamers play?
Well, I don't get to play or watch as much as I would like to (there is a lot to do standing up Helix). With that said, I get most of my game time or streamer time interacting with my children. They've been playing the new Dune title [Dune: Awakening] which I am excited to dig into with them as time allows.
What game do you have the most playtime in, and how many hours is it?
DOTA2, Eve Online, or Path of Exiles. All 3 are fairly split in terms of historical time investment.
What's your Top 5 games of all time? Based on your personal preference, not based on industry accolades or contributions.
Ultima Online, EverQuest, Eve Online, Path of Exile, DOTA2.
Outside of gaming, what are your favorite hobbies?
I enjoy rowing, bicycling, and BBQing. They keep me outdoors, active, and smelling like glorious BBQ.
What's something surprising about you that people wouldn't guess?
My first job as a teenager was on the retail side working at Wizards of the Coast (prior to their Hasbro acquisition). I fell in love with TCGs, CCGs, and games as a function.
What's your proudest gaming accomplishment as a player?
Whenever I can beat my kids in a game of Halo or Call of Duty. The competitive spirit is real in our home... and the wins against your own kids just feel so so good.
